Why can't we specify due dates for graded discussion topics?

You can achieve this by adding the graded discussion topic in the content tool under a module and then specifying the due date for this topic.

Please follow the below steps to assign a due date on a graded discussion topic,

1.Go to a course

2.Access the content tool

3.Click on a module where you would like to add this graded discussion topic

4.Click on Add Existing Activities button

5.From the dropdown choose Discussions

6.Click on the Forum name where the graded discussion topic exists

7.Click on Graded Discussion topic

8.Now the graded discussion topic will be added under the module

9.Click on the down arrow next to the graded discussion topic name

10.From the dropdown menu click on Edit Properties in Place

11.Click on Add Dates and restrictions and specify the due date

12.Click on Update

I came across this article as I am also trying to create discussion threads with due dates for my students. Following the steps above does not work though as there is no option to Edit Properties in Place. Please advise. Thank you!

D2L, when can we expect to add due dates for discussions in the same way as for assignments and quizzes? This would also allow us to update these dates in Manage Dates. Thank you, Jane

Agree with many above - while there is a workaround discussed above, I believe there should be more of a focus on providing an actual Discussion due date setting. This would make it consistent with other activities in D2L. Consistency is key to user friendliness. Thanks.
