Good Morning Stefanie,
Thanks so much for your email, information and perspective! I have a meeting with a couple of colleagues next week to review the issues that are occurring and what technologies they are utilizing. Your information and link to
is very helpful. If you come across additional information or resources, please feel free to share them.
Again, thanks for your response and have a wonderful day!
Best,

Hi. Thanks for reaching out.
I can start out with some links in our documentation. If you want more, feel free to message me and we can talk more.

Something to get you started on the path about how to navigate Brightspace with keyboard, screen reader and screen magnification: It's broken up into little chunks but you should find what you need.

Carin, I absolutely love D2L's learner resources site. https://documentation.brightspace.com/EN/accessibility/-/learner/accessibility_and_navigation_intro.htm?tocpath=Get started|Accessibility and navigation|_____0 But I have a question: Is this help-site navigation, with the changing off-side navigation panel, actually usable for a blind or other keyboard user?

Hi. Can you describe what you mean by help-site navigation with the changing off-side navigation panel? Do you mean the toolbar with the back, next, print and change language buttons? I’m using a screen-reader, so sometimes what is obviously a “side panel” to you might not be for me, *smile*. I have never had a problem targeting the buttons with the b key, but I think I see what you’re talking about while tabbing. They seem to fluctuate. I will ask some questions. Is this what you’re talking about, or are you referring to something else? Carin Headrick

Thanks for asking. There is a right-side panel with a lot of links. Say I click the link in the side panel for "Understanding site organization using assistive technology" That provides an intro paragraph not much info. The side panel is now different. There are three links for different aspects of the site navigation, headed by the page I came from but the overall context is gone. If I click one of those three links, then the side panel will only list the page I am in, plus the one I came from. It took me a while to figure out how this "Help" part of the Community could be navigated, even with visual cues available to me. I am wondering if sending a screen reader user to that link is helpful or confusing. srj

I get what you mean. It is in a region labeled “topics navigation” so you get a clue, but I should have more conversations about how it could be improved.
