Hi @Nancy Evans
As the instructor of the course, it is completely your decision on how often you want your facilitator to be involved!
I would recommend you think of two big topics: Communication and Assessment.
Communication:
- How will learners communicate with you and any additional facilitators if they have questions/ concerns about course content?
- If you choose to have course discussion forums where these questions can be addressed, how often will they be checked?
- What levels of interactions should students expect with teaching staff?
Assessment:
- What activities will require grading (manual or automated assessment by the system)?
- How much time will you and/or your facilitators need to spend on the assessment of activities?
- Which LMS tools do you want to utilize?
You can then decide how you would like to structure your course in terms of content delivery, setting up the gradebook, and creating learner activities (discussions, quizzes, assignment folders). I would also recommend discussing with colleagues on how they have led self-paced online courses before to acquire more ideas and learn from others' experiences.
Best of luck!

Thanks Megan,
That is great advice! I beginning to believe that a self-paced course is more effective with some level of facilitator involvement.
