I have a question of the definition of Content options in Release Conditions.

Options
Under the Content item choices in Release conditions what is "Completed content topic" and "Not completed content topic"?  What is the difference "Visited content topic", "Visited all content topics", and "Not visited content topic" and "Completed content topic" and "Not completed content topic"?

    Hello @Nancy Evans

    Here is documentation: https://documentation.brightspace.com/EN/le/release_conditions/instructor/release_conditions_types.htm

    Please see if this helps:

    Content - visited content topic

The user must visit a specific content topic in order to fulfill the release condition

Content - Not visited content topic

The user must not visit the specified content topic in order to fulfill the release condition. Depending on your organization's security configurations, especially if the d2l.Tools.ManageFiles.UseContentRestrictedSecurity configuration variable is set to ON, users may not be able to access specified content topics at all when this release condition is set

Content - Visited all content topics

The user must visit all content topics in the course offering in order to fulfill the release condition

    Content - Completed content topic

The user completes a content topic. The method of completing the topic depends on the type, such as viewing a file or submitting an assignment.

This release condition ignores exemptions, meaning that if the learner completes the activity, the release condition can be met, regardless of the activity being required, optional, or exempt.

    Thanks

    Priyanka

    Hi @Nancy Evans,

Thank you for your question regarding Release Conditions seen for Content.

"Completed content topic" allows you to select a Content Topic that you wish the user to completes beforehand. If the learner completes the activity/topic, the release condition can be met. "Not completed content topic" on the other hand, requires that the user must not visit the specified content topic in order to fulfill the release condition to view the item with the release condition.

Here is a helpful Documentation article defining the different Release Conditions: https://documentation.brightspace.com/EN/le/release_conditions/instructor/release_conditions_types.htm

Please let me know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks Viktoriya and Priyanka. That is helpful. One more question. Can "Completed content topic" be used to know if a student completed a video?

    Thanks again.

@Nancy Evans thank you for the follow-up question!

Please note that for the "Completed content topic" release condition, the method of completing the topic depends on the type. If the Video completion is set to complete after Viewing the Content topic, then the user will fulfill the release condition after accessing the Video in Content.

Here is a helpful resource for the difference between Automatic and Manuel Completion Tracking: https://documentation.brightspace.com/EN/le/content/instructor/tracking_completion_participation.htm

Does that include external pages? D2L has gone to making most if not all content open in external pages. Sometimes I try to set a page to internal and it does not display unless I set it to open in external page.

@Nancy Evans In case any content opens in new tab/window then time is not included but visited does, and when you click next from that topic it marks completion.
