How do I allow SMS notifications so students can select this option from their profile and add the

Options
We currently allow students to set-up email notification in Brightspace, we would like to give them the option to receive SMS notifications too. I found this article but it doesn't tell me how to turn on SMS notifications.  https://community.brightspace.com/s/article/All-About-Notifications?t=1651220803027 We already have 'notifications' selected but this only shows the email option. We also need to add our message provider details (we are looking at using a provider we already use to send other messages in house). I can't find any other articles on how to set this up.

    Hello @Kate White,

    Thanks for your great question!

As an Admin, when you go into the Notifications area for your own account is the mobile notification option missing for you as well?

If so, it may perhaps be the config variable for SMS messages. Take a look at d2l.Tools.Notifications.Methods.MobileEnabled just to make sure it's turned on.

Let me know if this helps!

    Hi @Stephen Rankin

Thanks for getting back to me.

No its not in my profile either. I'm not over familiar with Brightspace, how / where do I check if 'd2l.Tools.Notifications.Methods.MobileEnabled' is turned on?

    Thanks

    Kate

@Stephen Rankin I've been having a play and managed to find that configuration and select 'yes' to turn it on. What I'm not sure about is how to connect this to our SMS service. Setting up mobile carrier management and then checking my own notification settings seems to suggest that as a student I would pay for the message - otherwise why would we need the students carrier details?

    Hi @Kate White,

Great! Glad you were able to find the configuration and get that adjusted.

I'm not totally sure about the SMS service, but I'm looking into this. We'll follow up soon!
