How to reset student quizzes

Options
As faculty, one very common situation I have is students who do not complete their tests/quizzes because of some technical problem. They tell me things like their computer froze up (lots with Win 8) or their connection went out etc. It is often hard to determine if these cases are fictional but that brings up the problem of resetting the student's quizzes and sometimes extending deadlines. How does one do these things? Thanks

From the Grade screen of the assessment/quiz (click on the dropdown menu then of the quiz then choose the grade option), you can click on the attempt number for a student and then view the Quiz/Assessment Event Log. This log will tell you with a time stamp what the student did on the test.

Once a test has started you can't change the settings of the assessment for that attempt. Any settings you change for the assessment would be used during the next attempt started.

If you need to reset an attempt, you would need to delete the attempt already taken or increase the amount of attempts allowed on the assessment.

If the attempt is still in progress, you will need to change the Restrict to dropdown menu to include all users or just users with attempts in progress in order to see those attempts and view the Event Log. By default the system only shows completed attempts.

I am not sure how to do this with more than one user at a time. Our training class has only one student (myself). I will try it with that one at least. A common cause of these incomplete tests is that the student is trying to find the answer in their book or even with google. (After some time, test questions do tend to wind up online someplace) In those cases, what does the system do when time runs out?

When you create an assessment/quiz there are 3 choices for what to do when the time runs out.

    1) You can let them keep working and ignore the timer.

    2) You can mark the test as being late and let them keep working.

    3) You can mark the test as being late and take the test from them and give them a 0 for the test.

Each of the options also have an additional timer before it is marked late.

So you have 1 hour for the test and a 5 min late limit, so that gives them 5 mins to submit the test before it is marked late or taken from them and given a 0.

You enter those two time limits. You also need to make sure the Enforce Time Limit and Show Clock boxes are checked.

The options do seem a bit draconian but it is nice to know what they actually are and how to set it up. Thanks for the video.
