You might have noted in my last blog post ([BROKEN LINK]link), that we are committed to listening to you and making improvements in the Assignments tool. As part of the continued effort, I am happy to share with you that in our upcoming December release – 10.8.8, Assignment type and Submission type can be edited after assignment creation. This addresses the following PIE items - PIE-D3654 and PIE-D4880.
Any existing Assignment that does not have a submission can be edited to modify the following:
(1) The Assignment type – Individual assignment or Group assignment
(2) The Submission type – File submission or Text submission or On paper submission or Observed in person
(3) The Completion type – Manually by learners or Automatically on evaluation or Automatically on due date

Frequently Asked Questions:
1. Can I modify the assignment using Valence API?
Yes, the Valence API will be updated to support this new capability.
2. Are there any checks in place to ensure users do not accidentally change the assignments with submissions?
Yes, the assignment type, the submission type and the completion type fields are not editable if there is a user submission. An in-line message shows up to alert the user.

3. Can I modify the assignment after I copy or import a course?
Yes, if there is no submission to the assignment it can be modified. This includes the ability to modify an assignment after a course copy or import.
