Adding Activity Feed permissions to new roles...

I'm trying to allow a new role to post via the Activity Feed widget in a course offering, but since this widget is not included in "Roles and Permissions," I'm unsure how to go about adding this ability to a specific role in a course offering beyond facilitator/instructor . I do not want learners to be able to post, so the configuration variable doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone know how to do this?
