Assignment/grade linking - change of behaviour?

Has the behaviour changed when an assignment is linked to a grade item?

 

We have observed that if the instructor manually enters a grade into the Grades tool for a student, this now updates the score on the associated assignment submission and publishes feedback for that submission.

 

If the assignment is set for anonymous marking, this also has the effect of removing anonymity for the whole class.

 

My recollection, and that of several colleagues, is that previously updates made in the grade item didn't flow back to the assignment.

 

Is my/our memory faulty or have we missed an announcement somewhere?
