Anyone familiar with the Assessment options in Content for Assignments, Discussions, and Quizzes?

A faculty member asked one of our campus admins about the Assessment options in Content, and I never noticed this option before. From my testing, I was able to change points, choose an existing Grade Item, or create a new Grade Item. Upon selecting an existing Grade Item, that selection still showed when editing my test Assignment.
I searched the Brightspace Community, but I couldn't find any related articles. Can anyone point me to details on this feature or know when it was implemented?
