Is there any way to change the "Closed" in the "My courses" widget?

Hi @Mariana Pietraru
Usually, students should not be able to see "closed courses". We may need to check permissions and current settings for your case.
Was your question more on the lines to hide "closed courses" from students?
Thanks,
Rahul.

Hello Mariana, This is controlled by Edit settings page under Admin Tools > Roles & Permissions > Student role > select dropdown arrow and Edit Settings > Under Course Access Options > uncheck "Access past courses". You might to want uncheck this option for students not see the future courses. Thanks.

Hello - there is a related PIE idea D4014 for this. https://desire2learn.brightidea.com/ideas/D4014 - be sure to give it a vote.
I would like to see a variable to change the wording as well. Also, in this month's CD release, a new feature with the widget is you can remove the course end and course start dates (which also removes the closed indicator).

The question was more about the word "Closed". It is the language that we would like to control.

@Rahul Desai , we have the same issue with "Closed". Our students can see any course they are enrolled in that is active. Most faculty keep their courses active for some time after the last day of class. Students want to come back and get their grades and feedback. Sometime there is late work, extensions related to an accommodation letter, or an in-progress grade. And there is no way to give different start or end dates to individuals.

We have the same issue...very confusing.

I've looked at the PIEs related to this but I don't think any of the ones implemented have addressed this request. I assume the ability to change the tag from "closed" to something else (such as "ended", "archived", "completed", etc) which will let the student know the end date has passed but they can still review their material after the course end date. I don't think we want to just remove the start/end date from the widget, just have the option to simply change the word that shows on the image from "closed" to something else. Not sure why it would be hard to implement. Unfortunately many students (and instructors) freeze when they see the word "closed" and panic not realizing they can simply access the course anyway (with the option to view past courses checked for those roles). I am sure many schools allow their students/faculty to view their course material after the end date.

With an older version of the My Courses widget we could do customize the word in Language Management. We really, really need that ability back. So much confusion, frustration, and anger over the word "Closed" among our students and faculty. I'm not asking D2L to use our favorite word for everyone, just to restore the ability for us to choose a word.
We have an announcement for students, "If you can see it, you can click it," but given that, in our Daylight institutional home page, My Courses takes 2/3 of the screen real estate, and other institutionally-mandated widgets load above Announcements, students rarely see an Announcement.

Hi all. We are looking for the same language customisation option for past courses in "My Courses", to avoid confusion about whether "Closed" courses can be accessed or not.
I do not see that this has been picked up by D2L in this thread, but I have just spottet PIE D7972 posted by @Georgia Davis . Let's all vote it up :-)
