Is Janison GDPR Compliant?
Yes! Janison currently hosts data for customers that are primarily located in the European Union. Our teams adhere to practices that comply with the GDRP. As national data protection rules continue to develop, our teams are introducing new features into our product to provide better support for the developing data protection trends. Some of these new features (that specifically address EU GDRP requirements) include:
- The ability to provide a single data extract for a user of all of the personal information stored in our database for that user.
- Fair use data notices being available as part of online test design.
- The ability to deliver and store personal information for users located within one country on a server that is also located in that country, while accessing tests that are managed from a global database located in another datacentre.
Does Janison Retain PII?
Janison only needs a minimum amount of student information as required by the customer, usually all we need is student name and a unique ID. To minimize entry of any sensitive student data in our system we can receive unique student identification to manage the delivery of the exam, with the result against this Identification back to customer’s internal system who can then map this to real student data. In summary, our system can contain PII data such as name, email, phone etc but they are not mandatory. Our session and candidate code authentication framework ensures that we don’t need PII data inside our system to deliver a test, all we need is a unique student ID sent to our system for delivering the exam, we will send back the student ID to customer’s Student Management System (or equivalent) which may have PII data to consolidate exam results. What is Janison's Security (TLS, Encryption)?
Janison leverage an Azure service called Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) for databases which uses a symmetric key for encryption. It performs real-time encryption and decryption of the database, associated backups, and transaction log files at rest without requiring changes to the application. Transparent data encryption encrypts the storage of an entire database by using a symmetric key called the database encryption key. This database encryption key is protected by the transparent data encryption protector which is a service-managed certificate (service-managed transparent data encryption) TDE protects data at rest using 256-bit AES encryption and 3DES encryption algorithms.
The storage account automatically encrypts data when persisting it to the cloud. Data in Azure Storage is encrypted and decrypted transparently using 256-bit AES encryption, one of the strongest block ciphers available, and is FIPS 140-2 compliant.
All client-server communication in transit is encrypted using HTTPS TLS 1.2 protecting data in transit.
- SSL certificate over TLSv1.2
- HTTPS port 443
Data transmitted from the server to the database is secured via SSL/TLS connections.
Janison systems are encrypted with ASD approved cryptographic algorithms. Encryption keys are unique for each tenant. Keys are managed with Microsoft Azure vault which offers a role-based key management.
