How to create a Discussion Forum and Discussion Topic

To create a Discussion Forum:

From the Course Homepage, go to Discussions:
Click New, New Forum:
Fill in any necessary properties and restrictions fields.
To complete process, click:
1. Save and Close, or
2. Save and Add Topic to make new topic for Forum:

To create a Discussion Topic:

From the Course Homepage, go to Discussions:
Click New > New Topic:
Fill in the necessary properties and restrictions fields.
To complete process, click:
1. Save and Close, or
2. Save and New to make another new topic.

How to edit a Discussion Forum or Topic

To edit a Discussion Forum or Topic:

From the Course Homepage, go to Discussions:
Click the drop-down icon beside the Forum or Topic title.
Click Edit Forum or Edit Topic:
Complete any desired changes.
Click Save.

What is the difference between a Forum and a Topic?

Discussion Topics are individual topics or themes for a particular discussion thread.
Discussion Forums categorize topics, and are used for organization only.
- It is not possible to post within a Forum, only Topics.
Courses can have multiple Forums and Topics.
- An initial Forum must be created before first course Topic can be created.
- This is due to all topics needing to belong to a forum.

How to delete a Discussion Topic or Forum

To delete a Topic or Forum:

From the Course Homepage, go to Discussions:
Click More Actions, Delete:
Check off all Topics and Forums to be deleted.
Click Delete:

How to delete a post within a Discussion Topic

To delete a post within a Topic:

From Course Homepage, go to Discussions:
Click the Topic containing post to be deleted.
If you are using Reading View:
1. To delete a whole thread:
  1. Click the drop-down icon beside thread title.
  2. Click Delete Thread:
2. To delete a reply:
  1. Click title of thread containing reply.
  2. Click drop-down icon beside reply title.
  3. Click Delete Post:
If you are using Grid View:
1. A confirmation box will open.
2. Click Yes to delete post.
