For best results with your D2L Brightspace online courses, bookmark the following guidelines or download the PDF (Attachment above) & refer to these Top10 Tips for Success throughout the semester.
USERNAMES & PASSWORDS?
- The institution(s) where you are enrolled will provide your initial GeorgiaVIEW credentials.
If available, click the Forgot Password? link on your login page to have password reset instructions emailed to you. You may also contact your campus IT department for help setting up your campus email account, GeorgiaVIEW username & password.
COURSE & SYSTEM AVAILABILITY?
- Most GeorgiaVIEW online courses cannot be accessed until the first day of class.
If you were expecting a course to be available sooner, and this does not appear to be the case, contact the instructor.
Your course may not be available until 1–2 business days after you register — even if you registered late.
If this period has elapsed, and you still do not seem to have access to a particular online course, ask the instructor to add you to the class. You can locate your instructor’s contact information in your campus directory website.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS?
- Avoid the use of the Internet Explorer web browser (any version) with D2L Brightspace. The most recent versions of Mozilla Firefox & Google Chrome have been shown to be less problematic & more reliable.
- To determine whether your computer configuration is optimized for use with D2L Brightspace, visit the GeorgiaVIEW System Checker. Then review this D2L Help Center knowledge base article.
- When submitting your assignments or quizzes use the fastest, most stable Internet connection available to you — on or off campus. A “hard-wired” connection to your computer may be more reliable than a wireless connection.
- To reduce the chances for unexpected problems, disable any “automatic software update” feature on your computer. Wait to update your browser, operating system, Java, or other essential programs until the current semester is over.
COURSE WORK?
- As a best practice, compose all your important assignments or discussion posts outside of the Brightspace environment, using an application such as Microsoft Word, instead. Then either “cut & paste” your composition into Brightspace, or attach the saved document. That way, if you suddenly lose your Internet connection, your work-in-progress will not be lost forever.
- Review these suggestions for preventing potential problems & errors before taking any online quiz:
- Empty your browser cache before starting the quiz. This step may help boost your browser’s overall performance.
- Quit any running applications not strictly necessary for the completion of the quiz.
- Only have one browser window open & one Brightspace session running when taking the quiz.
- Save each of your quiz answers as you go. Do not wait to save all your responses until you are ready to submit the quiz. Trying to save too many answers at the same time may result in submission failures.
- You will NOT be able to use the Brightspace email tool as long as the completion of any quiz remains pending. After your completed quiz has been submitted you will be able to use the Brightspace email tool again.
