Upload timeouts may result from any combination of local variables, including which web browser is being used, but most notably file size and Internet connection speed or reliability. You can always try zipping any file to reduce its size as much as possible prior to uploading. And although there is no "minimum Internet connection speed" necessary to use Desire2Learn, obviously the better your Internet connection, the better your online experiences will be. We recommend that GeorgiaVIEW students rely on the fastest, hardwired Internet connection available, whenever possible, especially for submitting assignments or quizzes.
You can confirm your relative download & upload speeds with online tools such as SpeedTest. You may note that one's upload speed may be less than download speed.

Although the DHC cannot intercede with your ISP on your behalf, if you notice an activity that "always works when connecting from campus, but not when connected from home," here is an article that may guide & inform any subsequent communications with your service provider: GeorgiaVIEW - When should I be contacting my ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
If you are unsuccessfully trying to upload an assignment file, this potential workaround may be effective:
- Difficulties uploading files may occur more frequently when using Internet Explorer & Firefox.
- Try uploading files using the most recent version of the Chrome browse instead.
- Wherever you can upload a file, you should notice an option to "Drop files here, or click below!"
- Instead of clicking the Upload button, simply drag, then drop any file icon(s) from your computer folder or desktop into D2L's popup window where indicated. Multiple files can be uploaded at once with this method. After all the files have been staged for upload in the popup window, click the Add button.

- Uploading files this way is known as "Drag & Drop," and uses a different file transport mechanism, so timeouts may be avoided.
- D2L's Drag & Drop functionality only works with some supported web browsers, such as with recent versions of Firefox & Chrome (Mac & Windows), as well as with Internet Explorer 10 (Windows).
- Contact the DHC Helpdesk if you require additional assistance using the Drag & Drop process, or with uploading your assignment files.
